THE SPIRIT OF LIFE
And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit, who lives in you. - Romans 8:11
When we accept Christ, Paul says we become new creations. The old is gone the new has come. As the Spirit of Christ takes up residence in us, our desires, interests, attitudes and actions begin to change. Why? Because the Spirit of Christ in us has affection for the things of God and aversion to the things that are offensive to God. It is that simple. As you saw from yesterday's devotional, this does not happen automatically. In cooperation with the Spirit and out of obedience to God, we are to put the mark of the cross, the instrument of Christ's death, on all our sinful actions and attitudes. Putting sin to death can be a painful process, like debriding an infected wound. But as the dead tissue of sin is removed, it facilitates the growth of new life in the believer. We are commanded to take off the old attitudes and put on the new. That calls for us to become very intentional about becoming like Christ. Pray today that God would help you to become more intentional about clothing yourself in Christ.
