THE WITNESS OF THE SPIRIT

Because you are sons, God sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, the Spirit who calls out, "Abba, Father." - Galatians 4:6

Ferguson says, "To live in the light of God's promises and love, we need to be assured of our filial relationship with him." This is exactly what the Spirit of Sonship does for the children of the Living God. Our Father God is not a far away and impersonal god. On the contrary, He is close and personal with His children and His name reflects this. The Eastman dictionary defines Abba as a Chaldee word for father which, expresses warm affection and filial confidence. One of the surest marks of a Christian is the witness the Holy Spirit bears in our hearts as He prompts us to cry out to our heavenly Father in times of need. The child of God does not just call upon "God" when he is in need. But indeed, it is the Spirit of Christ that enables a believer to cry out "Abba Father" like a helpless little child crying for their daddy. Give thanks today for your heavenly Father who did not leave you an orphan, but gave you His Spirit to empower you to cry out to Him in your time of need.
