WHEN I SURVEY THE WONDEROUS CROSS

For the month of November we will be meditating upon the famous hymn by Issac Watts, When I Survey the Wondrous Cross. Charles Wesley reportedly said he would give up all his other hymns to have written this one.

Personal Reflection And Meditation

See from His head, His hands, His feet,
Sorrow and love flow mingled down!
Did e'er such love and sorrow meet,
Or thorns compose so rich a crown?

Scripture memorization (read, write and repeat):
1 John 4:10 This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.

Bible Study
Read the following scriptures: Leviticus 17:11, Isaiah 53:10-11, 1 John 4:9-10, and Romans 6:22-23.

According to Leviticus 17:11 why did God command that the Israelites use animal sacrifices in their religious rituals?

.

In Isaiah 53:10 Isaiah prophesies about the coming Messiah. In what way was Jesus Christ a guilt offering?

.

According to 1 John 4:10 how do we know, that we know that God loves us?

.

According to Romans 6:22-23 what are the benefits that we have reaped because of Christ's sacrifice for us?

.

Personal Application
What did you learn about the character, plans or purposes of God through this study?

.

How do you believe the Lord is speaking to you through this study?

.

What adjustment in attitudes, beliefs or actions is God calling you to make?

.

Take these things to God in prayer.
