YOU CAN DO NOTHING...
Personal reflection and meditation
Have you ever needed help to get something accomplished? How do you feel about asking others to help you? Why? How do you feel about receiving help from others when it is offered? Why?
Meditate on and memorize (read, write and repeat) John 15:5 "I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing."
Bible Study
Jesus' statement in John 15:5b begs the question, "what is the nothing that I can't do without Jesus?"
Read Matthew 16:18, Ephesians 4:11-12, Luke 4:18-19, Matthew 25:34-36, John 17:26, Acts 1:8, John 13:34, John 14:31, John 15:9-10 and answer the following questions.
What is the work of God/Jesus?
.
What is the work that God has assigned to His people?
Read John 5:17-19, 15:5b and answer the following questions.
What is Jesus able to do without the Father?
.
What are we able to do without Jesus Christ?
.
Read the following scriptures and write down the ways in which God has equipped us to do His work: John 14:16-17, 26, 1 Corinthians 12:4-7, 1 Corinthians 12:11, 1 Corinthians 12:27-28.
.
Who is assigned to do the work of God? Is anyone exempt? Is the work of God done by individuals or is it a co-operative effort?
.
Now go back and answer the question, "What is the nothing that you can't do without Jesus?"
.
Personal Application
Go back to the personal reflection and mediation. In what ways do you see yourself trying to do God's work without Him?
.
How did you sense God speaking to you through this study?
.
What adjustment in attitudes, beliefs or actions is God calling you to make?
.
Take these things to God in prayer
