THE POWER OF CHRIST'S PRAYER LIFE
Compiled and Edited by Lance Wubbels

If there were ever a preacher in the history of Christendom that believed in prayer, it would be Charles Haddon Spurgeon. God used Spurgeon to build up His kingdom in London during the 19th century. In God's power and strength Spurgeon grew the London Metropolitan Tabernacle into the world's largest independent congregation at that time--over 6,000 attended every Sunday morning.

Spurgeon was devoted to both personal and congregational prayer. At any given time there were people in the basement prayer room of the Metropolitan Tabernacle on their knees interceding for the church. About this Spurgeon would say, "Here is the powerhouse of the church. If I could impress my heart on every syllable and baptize every word with my tears, I could not too earnestly entreat you to be above all things earnest in prayer."

In this same poetic and image evoking style Spurgeon takes us on a journey through the powerful prayer life of Jesus Christ. Spurgeon reminds us that although Christ was in no need of humility, we are, and there is a close link between our prayers and our humility.

Humility, in short, acknowledging our need, begins with prayer. Spurgeon conveys to the reader the reality that our Lord Jesus Christ, who was in perfect unity and communion with the Father, still would not attempt to do His Father's work without first drawing near to Him in prayer. How much more should we mere mortals feel the necessity of prayer with our heavenly Father?

This carefully edited and compiled selection of Spurgeon's sermons by Lance Wubbels covers the gamut of Christ's prayer life. Included in this compilation are Spurgeon's sermons on Christ the intercessor, our ever-living High Priest; Christ's early mornings and all nights spent in prayer; Christ interceding for the transgressors; Christ's prayer of sanctification, unity and glory for believers; Christ's prayer of agony in Gethsemane; His prayer of deliverance for the woman with a spirit of infirmity; and His prayer for Peter that his faith would not fail.

Increase the richness and depth of your understanding of prayer by taking this journey with Charles Spurgeon as he uncovers the dimensions of Christ's prayer life hidden in the scriptures. As the scriptures say, "Come, all you who are thirsty, come to the waters; and you who have no money, come, buy and eat! Come buy wine and milk without money and without cost" (Isaiah 55:1). Are you thirsty? Are you hungry to have a deeper relationship with the Almighty? Come, see how Jesus prayed, see how Jesus quenched His thirst, and gained His strength for doing the Lord's will. Come, edify your soul and deepen your walk with the Lord as you read this book, The Power of Christ's Prayer Life.
