To understand better who Matthew (the gospel writer) and those he wrote about thought of the person and nature of Jesus, we look to the terms and titles used for Jesus in the gospels.
One title in particular that intrigues me is Son of God. I came across an interesting article that speaks of what the term “Son of God” meant to the Jews. For example in Matthew 8 when Jesus encounters the demon possessed men in the region of Gadarenes they shout, “What do you want with us, Son of God? Have you come here to torture us before the appointed time?”
